What happens at group practices?

These are “friendly” events where players can knock the rust off and coaches get a chance to evaluate talent with the goal of forming equitable teams. Group practices may include skill stations, scrimmages, and more.

Are group practices mandatory?

No, but players should attend as many as possible.

What do players bring to group practices?

All players should bring labeled personal equipment (a glove, water, hand sanitizer, and athletic cup for male players). Players are welcome to bring bats, catchers gear, and any other gear of their choice. Please wear long pants and baseball cleats or turf/athletic shoes.

What should parents do during group practices?

Parents are invited to hang out at the field, and to lend a hand if asked! As teams are not yet formed we need many hands on deck to run stations and drills. If you leave Westgate, make sure your child knows your phone number and that you stay in the area in case of inclement weather. Please do not be late to pick up your child.

What about the other levels?

Tee Ball, Challengers, and Intermediates do not have group practices. You all start after Labor Day! Contact your Level Coordinator with Qs: Tee Ball ([email protected]), Challengers ([email protected]), and Intermediate ([email protected])

What is the Fall Ball Calendar?

August 23-31: Group practices

Early September: Teams formed through modified drafts; families notified

Week of September 7: Practices begin

Weekend of October 9: No events

October 30: Season concludes

What is Fall Ball all about?

Fall Ball is focused on development. This is the time for players to try a higher level of play and new positions. We do not keep official standings or host a season-ending tournament. It’s all about the fun of baseball – with a focus on skill building and safety, of course.

What is FCKLL all about?

FCKLL is for boys and girls 4-13, including children with special needs. There are no “cuts” – everyone makes a team and gets to play. We are a non-profit powered by 200 volunteers, and the oldest Little League in Virginia. The objective of the FCKLL shall be to implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority, so that they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children and will grow to be good, decent, healthy and trustworthy citizens.
