FCKLL Friday Update: COVID reminders

I had hoped to open today’s message by congratulating the Nats on going 1-0 on Opening Day…. But COVID got in the way.

The Nats’ situation is exactly what we want to avoid here in Falls Church, and this message is all about our COVID plans and what actions we need from everyone, to keep everyone safe. The info below summarizes the expectations for Spring; it is not new or different from what we’ve communicated over the last several weeks.

Please review, as it “takes a village” to keep our community on the ballfield.

  • Thank you for doing your pre-event screenings. This is for every player and volunteer, every practice and game. You may not participate if you do not complete the screening at covid.fckll.org.
  • Thank you for wearing masks (CDC-approved face coverings of your choice). We expect masks on all players and volunteers, all the time. Pitchers and catchers may use discretion. There are a lot of good sports masks out there, which aren’t too hot and don’t get in the way.
  •  Social distancing remains in effect. Spectators must remain 10’ from others whenever possible. In accordance with the current VA Executive Order, spectators must wear a face covering when unable to maintain at least 6' of physical distance from other individuals who are not family members. Please follow postage signage regarding distancing, including no fans in the bleachers or behind the backstop. We ask you to avoid carpooling (or at minimum wear masks and roll the windows down) – it is hard to social distance in a vehicle!
  • Our COVID Coaches are key to our success. Thanks to those who have already signed up and attended training. There are 3 remaining trainings for COVID coaches, April 6, 7, and 8. Every team must have trained COVID Coaches before they can take the field on Opening Day. Please contact your Manager or [email protected] to sign up.
  • Earlier this week, our COVID team participated in a call with Fairfax County, regarding COVID protocols in youth sports. We feel confident about the protocols in place, and ask everyone’s cooperation in following the rules. Fairfax County has given us clear guidance about the process should a case occur; we are very pleased with their partnership and support.
  • Why are we doing all this? So we can play ball! We must comply to keep our field access from Fairfax County, and to keep others safe in the event there is a positive case anywhere in the FCKLL family.
  • We will continue to monitor guidance and will adjust as the situation evolves.
  • Virtual Opening Day festivities are next Saturday, April 10. Look for more info next week. Team-level schedule info will come from your manager and is available on our website.
  • Finally, please review all detailed COVID-related info on our website, and pay special attention to the family One Pager

Stay safe and have fun,

Kirsten & all at FCKLL
