Assessments Overview

Player assessments for the Spring 2021 season will be conducted March 6th and 13th, marking the official start of our season! Please read this note carefully, as there are several steps to complete in advance, and a few changes due to COVID-19.

Player Reporting Schedule, by level, last name, and time:

These players MUST attend:

  • Players who are League Age 8 or older (Refer to age chart).
  • Players who are registered for Majors level and did not play on a Majors team in either the Spring of 2019 or Fall of 2020.

These players should NOT attend:

  • Players who are League Age 7 or younger (Refer to age chart).
  • Players who played on a Majors level team in Spring 2019 and/or Fall 2020.
  • Players registered for Intermediate or Challengers baseball.

Where are assessments?
Assessments will be held outdoors on the turf field at Westgate Elementary School, 7500 Magarity Rd, Falls Church, 22043.

What to Bring

  • All players and volunteers must wear CDC approved mask.
  • Players will need to bring their own glove, bat and batting helmet -- or they may borrow equipment from the League (available at check-in and cleaned after each use). Male players should wear an athletic cup.
  • Please send your player with weather appropriate clothing (coat, hat, and gloves) as there may be periods where players are waiting.
  • Regular athletic shoes are fine; cleats not required on the turf.
  • The portable restrooms have NOT YET BEEN DELIVERED to the field, so please plan accordingly.

Things to be done in advance - Touchless Registration!

Traditionally, caregivers have been expected to bring copies of residency and DOB documents, however, we are asking that all documents be uploaded to FCKLL's registration system ahead of assessments. This will help us maintain social distance, minimize queuing, and expedite assessments.

Each player must upload:

  • Three documents proving residency (e.g., property tax bill, rental agreement, utility bill, driver's license, etc.). Please review the requirements carefully, and provide one document from each Group. For players living outside the league boundary, but attending school within the boundary, you will instead need to upload proof of school enrollment.
  • One document proving age (birth certificate or passport).
  • The Little League Medical Release. This covers you for the season and you will not need to give a copy to your Manager at the first practice.

You can upload digital versions or pictures of the documents. Simply Log-in to your account on the FCKLL website, select your account in the upper right, and edit your player's profile (see below) to be taken to the registration form, where documents can be uploaded. Be sure to press save before closing! If you cannot upload the documents, please email [email protected] at least 24 hours before your assessment, and bring the hard copies to the assessment.

COVID Pre-Screening on the Day of the Assessment

  •  ALL players and volunteers must complete a COVID Pre-Screen the day of their assessment session. The form can be accessed here. Anyone who cannot “pass” the pre-screen will be offered a make-up date. If you do not feel well or have any potential COVID exposure, please please please stay home!

  •  Caregivers at Assessments

FCKLL asks that caregivers wait for players in their cars after registering. This is to limit the number of people on the field, ensure COVID-19 safety protocols, and help expedite assessments. Caregivers should expect their player's evaluation to last approximately 30 minutes.

Due to COVID-19, only Managers, Coaches of Record, and a select number of volunteers/COVID Coaches will be permitted to attend.

Caregivers must wear a mask at all times, when outside their cars.

    What happens at assessments?

This is not a tryout; every registered player will be assigned to a team in FCKLL regardless of their performance at the assessment. These are a mandatory evaluation, required by Little League International, where FCKLL coaches evaluate each player on several baseball skills.
Assessments allow us to collect up-to-date performance data for the player draft, helping to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of talent across all teams in a division.

Players are evaluated on fielding, hitting, batting, running, attitude, and overall player presence.   Evaluators look for form, strength and character relative to other players of the same age.  Players’ assessment scores are confidential to FCKLL and are not published or otherwise made known beyond the evaluators of the FCKLL Staff, and coaches/managers involved in the player drafts. Caregivers can learn more
    here.

    Important Info:

  • There is no need to “practice” for assessments. We know everyone is rusty after the offseason!
  • When you arrive for assessments, volunteers will guide you through registration and escort players to their assigned station.
  • Siblings who are required to be assessed are able to attend during the same time slots, but must inform the Player Agent in advance.
  • Players who are required to attend assessments and are not able to attend the published dates/times must contact the Player Agent for assessment alternatives.
  • At the conclusion of each player’s assessment, volunteers will help players find their caregivers. Players will not be allowed to enter the parking lot unsupervised.

In the event of inclement weather, FCKLL will provide updated times and dates.
